Module 1 Induction 16/09

Yesterday I attended the Module 1 Skype Induction. It was a great opportunity to connect with the programme leaders, some of the other students and to get a clear picture of the course and how everything works in this type of work based / distance learning.

Here are some notes I made of important/interesting things that were said. They will definitely be useful to me to look back to, but I am hoping they will also be useful to more people in the course whether or not you attended this induction.

  • Create a blog! This link is your friend http://mdx.mrooms.net/course/view.php?id=859&section=2 (note you have to have access to myUniHub to view it).
  • Once you have set up your blog email your advisor the address, so they can add you on this great list where you can also find everyone else's blogs: http://mdx.mrooms.net/course/view.php?id=859&section=6
  • The academic calendar is also available on myUniHub. Make note of all the dates and try to attend as many sessions as you can! Note the sessions are not obligatory and you will be able to find the information discussed on other student's blogs after the session.
  • Blog at least once a week and comment on at least two posts by other students on their blogs. Blog posts don't have to be lengthy.
  • If you want to be alerted every time someone posts on their blog via email, there is an option to follow the blog. It is advisable to follow Adesola and Helen's blogs so you don't miss anything!
  • The Handbook is going to be your best friend (it will soon be available on myUniHub). It will guide you through the course.
  • The first assignment for module 1 is due in early January and it will be a 1,000-word reflection essay.
  • Module 1 is about you, your practice and building a network.
  • Your practice is everything you do as an artist not only paid work.
  • Module 2 will be about something you'd like to develop further.
  • There are overall 4 modules in the course. Module 1 & 2 run in the academic year 2017/18 and Module 3 & 4 in 2018/19.
That's all I'm fairly sure about, don't hesitate to comment with any corrections and/or additions!

  1. Great, you've captured the main points of the 'how', 'what' and 'where' well!

  2. Thanks Arghierenia - I missed the main induction days unfortunately and although I was told all the above through different conversations and my main induction it's helpful to see it laid out like that. I might try bullet pointing next time I have a Skype session.
